How it all started

We love telling stories, and we love telling them really well! In fact, we love telling stories so much that our friends often asked us to use our range of accents and voices to supply recordings of traditional fairy tales and stories for their children. The stories were a huge hit, so we decided to expand the catalogue and make them more widely available. And so, TheStoryMouse.com was born!

The Story Mouse offers a selection of the best traditional stories, fables and fairy tales from Hans Christian Andersen, Aesop, Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm. We add to our catalogue with fresh material all the time, so come back regularly to see what's new. If there's a story which you'd like to hear which isn't currently available on The Story Mouse let us know and we'll see if we can include it - we want to offer what you want to hear!

We also believe TheStoryMouse.com is complementary to parents reading to children. We carried out a survey in the summer of 2009 where we found 44% of parents read to their children regularly, but only 19% thought they were any good at it! A high percentage of those who didn't rate their performance cited a reluctance to "do the voices" (and a certain amount of embarrassment) as barriers. So we hope that our presenters will inspire you to bring your own readings to life.
